The cross demands we hold fast to the biblical revelation of the living God who is disgusted and angered by evil, but it convinces us that his merciful search for a way to forgive, cleanse, and accept evildoers would come in a way that is equally expressive of every dimension of who he is. The cross was necessary because God hates sin, but also because of just how much he loves the sinner!
