With his dying breath, Jesus made provision for those who drew near—provision that took shape in the form of persons given to one another. To be saved is to be part of a family, and the expression of that reality by necessity occurs within a localized gathering of people with deep, mutual, interdependent ties of love, commitment, and transferral of life.
