Why is Jesus Returning to Judge the World?

Luke 12:2 – Nothing is covered up that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. (ESV)

What will God judge?
God will judge all sin. Even things that no one knows about that are said or done in secret.

2 Thessalonians 1:6-8 – Since indeed God considers it just to repay with affliction those who afflict you, and to grant relief to you who are afflicted as well as to us, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven…inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. (ESV)

When will Jesus judge the world?
Jesus will judge the world when he is revealed. That is when he returns in glory.

Who will be judged?
All nations and all people will be judged

How will they be judged?
They will be judged on their knowledge and obedience to the gospel.

Why does God judge the world?
It is just.

Because he cares for his people, those who have hurt his people will be judged negatively.

Read as Paul continues his thought:

V. 10a – When [Jesus] comes on that day to be glorified in his saints and to be marveled at among all who have believed.

How does someone escape a negative judgment?
We escape a negative judgment by believing the gospel.

Scripture Memory Verse:

2 Corinthians 5:10 – For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil. (ESV)

Why is Jesus returning to judge the world?
Jesus is returning to bring justice for all the evil that has been done.
